1999년부터 모색해 오던 패턴(pattern)에 관한 연구를 지속하는 동시에, 이전에 간과해 왔던 새로운 주제, 즉 ‘생명’에 대한 인식을 패턴을 통해 덧입혔다. 투명하고 가벼운 잠자리의 날개, 부서질 듯 연약하지만 화려한 문양을 자랑하는 나비와 나방, 이와 같이 곤충의 날개에 자연적으로 새겨진 패턴에 관한 관심은 이전부터 있었던 작가의 취향을 반영하면서도, 반면 대상이 가장 작은 생명체인 곤충으로 집중된 것은 12년 동안의 침묵이 낳은 결과였다. 작은 곤충의 날개는 무심코 보는 이에게는 어쩌면 뻔한 패턴의 반복일 수 있지만, 그것의 생명에 집중할 때에는 같은 듯 하나하나는 다 다른 변주곡들을 들을 수 있다.

She utilizes her research subject of “patterns” by embedding the element of perception of “life”; a fresh approach that has somewhat been overlooked by artists in the past. A transparent, feather-light wings of a dragonfly, vulnerable creatures of butterflies and moths, which boast delicate yet sophisticated patterns in their wings - not only this reflects Juwon’s initial interest in natural patterns observed in wings of insects, but the fact that such interest has been focused on the smallest living creatures could only have resulted from the phase of “silence.” The wings of a small insect may be a mere repetition of simple patterns for some people but interpreting this in light of the wider meaning of life and creatures, one may well observe variations in a range of spectrum.
