진화생물학자 아드레아스 바그너Andreas Wagner는 인간의 이해영역을 넘어선 우리의 삶과 모든 생명을 포함한 만물의 세계를 바라보는 관점의 하나로서 패러독스Paradox를 제시한다. 즉 우리가 살고있는 이 세계는 생성과 소멸, 전체와 부분, 자유와 제한 등과 같이 서로 상반되는 개념인 동시에 분리될 수 없는 패러독스로 형성되어 있다. 조미예 작가는 모순적 미지의 자연세계와 우리의 삶, 그리고 생명에 대한 화두를 생명의 가장 작은 단위인 세포를 통해 고찰하며, 세포를 우리의 모순적 삶의 안내자로서 바라본다. 작가는 이번 전시를 통해 우리의 삶과 생명은 수많은 생명을 품은 우주인 동시에 자연이라는 미지세계의 한 부분으로서 세포와 같은 근원적 존재임을 강조하며, 삶과 생명의 의미를 고찰하는 기회를 제공한다.
Evolutionary biologist Andreas Wagner suggests that in order to understand that which is beyond human comprehension, we look at the unknown world within our lives, and all living things, as a paradox. In other words, our universe is formed with paradoxes that are inherently antithetical but cannot be separated, such as creation and extinction, the whole and a part, and freedom and restriction. Miye Cho looks at the cell as guide for our paradoxical lives, contemplating the varied stories of the paradoxical and mysterious natural world, life, and all living things through the cell, which is the smallest unit of living things. Through this exhibition, Miye would like to give visitors an opportunity to contemplate the meaning of our lives and life itself, emphasizing that our lives and life in general are actually universes in their own right, containing many living things, and at the same time, a primordial existence in the same way that a cell is a part of the mysterious unknown natural world.
